I wake with a start in one of the beds. Where am I? I think, but as the sleep wears off, I remember. I look at the other bed and see Diego, asleep, and out the window, I can see the moon hidden behind a few clouds, but still high in the sky, so it must be late. I try to go back to sleep, but I end up just lying here, unable to sleep, all those half memories of people and places swimming through my head, unable to hold onto them for more than a moment. I decide to get up, maybe go outside. Slipping quietly out of the room so Diego doesn’t wake up, I leave the small sick room and begin to go into the main room, but stop at the curtain that divides them when I see that Janus is out there with a man. Not wanting to go back, I just sit against the wall, the curtain blocking my view and blocking them from seeing me. I can hear their voices, but not their words. Then suddenly I hear a chair move and Janus say, “What-“ Looking back through the curtain, I see that the man has a knife and Janus is backed against his table, then so fast I almost don’t see it, the man turns the knife on himself and stabs himself through the heart. I almost rush out, but instead of only crimson blood, I see an inky black smoke begin to come out of the man though the stab wound also, and as the man’s blood spreads across his shirt, the smoke flies at Janus, then inside him. During this neither one moves, both frozen in place, but once all the smoke has gone into Janus, the man finally collapses. The sound of him hitting the floor snaps me out of my shock and I rush to go back to the room as quickly as I can.
